Recording from the “Knight, Briggs et al. Archive“.
This is the introduction of a 41-minute recording of Packie Russell made by John Knight in O’Connor’s Pub in 1973. These spoken words are a voice message from Packie to his friend and fellow concertina player, Andrew Knight.
Here is a transcript of the recording:
“I’m sitting here, by the fireside in O’Connor’s Pub, in Doolin. I’m having the chats with your dear mammy and dad. [Inaudible] I’d like to tell again that there isn’t any great possibility of me traveling out too far. But I was very sorry that I couldn’t go to George’s wedding. I’d like to send my regards to Simon, Paddy, Christopher, Leslie, Valerie and all concerned and the children. And I have also heard that you have improved to a great extend at your concertina. And that [is] gives me great pleasure and I hope that when I meet you again, for our next encounter, you shall be able to put me to shame. Packie Russell”
Many thanks to Matthew Wilson and the Knight, Briggs et al. Archive for this wonderful recording.
