This wonderful picture was taken in 1993 by Clare photographer and musician Christy Mc Namara.
Sincere thanks for Christy for sharing his photography for this project. Below are a few words from Christy about the photo.
“Micho Russell Doolin. I was working on my book ‘ The Living Note’ with writer Peter Woods at the time and shooting a lot of photographs of the music and musicians while sometimes playing tunes with them. I phoned Micho from Mc Gann’s coin box(no mobiles back then) to arrange a time to visit him in the afternoon. The pub was hopping and there was excitement in the air with Eoin O Neill and Jerdy Commane playing relaxed tunes in the corner. We stayed and listened a while, had coffee and toasted sandwiches and then went up to Micho’s at the appointed time. He told us that he was just back home from playing at a festival in Norway. Micho knew me from playing tunes and was relaxed and at ease in our company. He went from talking to playing while half sitting-leaning against a ladder that was standing against a cock of hay that was beside the house. His flute music floating off into the distance propelled by a gentle breeze…”
